one entryway three looks

One Entryway-Three Looks

How many of you have this problem?  Your house, condo, or apartment has no official entryway. You just walk into the living room. There is no closet for coats and shoes, so everything gets piled up by the door. I have a solution for you.  The basic elements are-

  • A place to hang coats
  • A place for shoes
  • Somewhere to toss keys, mail etc.
  • Somewhere to sit while you take off your shoes

I have taken the same basic room and outfitted it in 3 different looks. Let’s take a look at them.

rustic entryway

This first look has a rustic feel.  It has a nice wood console table with a wicker basket below to toss gloves, slippers, Legos, whatever you please.  There is a coat rack on the wall and a bench below. You can tuck shoes underneath the bench.  There is a wood bowl for mail and even a chalkboard for messages.

Next up is a look that makes me think “IKEA or bust”.  It’s colorful and functional. Hooks on the wall with cubbies for shoes below.  The sleek desk has drawers to stash bills, stamps, Reese’s Cups (don’t judge me).  And there is even room enough underneath for 2 little stools. More colorful accents are on top of the desk.  I’m more of a traditional girl myself, but I love this look.

traditional entryway

Our last entryway look is traditional, yet fun.  I absolutely need a zebra print chair like that. Next to the door, we have a classic coat rack. And instead of a table, I used a vintage dresser.  But where will the shoes go?  In the bottom drawer of course.  Just line it with a rubber mat. On top of the dresser are some classy decor and a ceramic bowl as your catchall. Add a traditional mirror so you can check your hair before you go out.  Or perhaps give yourself a self-affirming talk (“I’m good enough. I’m smart enough. And gosh darn it, people like me.”).

I hope this has inspired you to come up with some of your own entryway solutions. Which one would you love to have? And please share if you have tips on corralling entryway clutter.  Happy decorating!
